Request for Success Stories

The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) is inviting nominations for ‘real life’ case studies of "Success Stories" for its Third Global Conference: Building Bridges of Peace, Culture and Prosperity through Sustainable Tourism.

The aim of the conference is to identify, encourage and develop tourism initiatives that will contribute to sustainable human, social, cultural and economic development in the 21st century. Particular emphasis will be placed on building two-way bridges among developed, developing and emerging economies worldwide.

Abstracts of case studies are invited as well as proposals for workshops. All nominations for case studies and workshops should contribute to the conference theme, "Building Bridges of Peace, Culture and Prosperity through Sustainable Tourism." Topic areas include, but are not limited to, case studies demonstrating the contribution of sustainable tourism to:

  • Promotion of international understanding and cooperation
  • Human, social, cultural, spiritual or educational development
  • Economic development
  • Heritage preservation
  • Environmental protection, including parks and protected areas
  • Bio-diversity
  • Rural and community development
  • Indigenous programs
  • Opportunities for the disabled

Presenters should submit their abstract as an attachment in MS Word format or as a text file

either on disk or through e-mail. The submitted abstract should include: title of case study,

presenter, presenter’s position and organization, city and country. Abstracts should not exceed

300 words and be submitted by July 31, 1999.
